NOW is the time to set REAL healthy lifestyle goals, not resolutions, for yourself!

Can you believe it? Yes, it's almost here...a New Year, the start of 2022!
If you're like me, you are in self-reflection mode thinking about all the things that have occurred in your life over the past year. You may also be thinking of making New Years resolutions; something that I have done as while in the past with no success because I did not have a plan or strategy to sustain results.
The problem is many people will make resolutions that they don't keep especially concerning their health and wellness. Well, NOW is the time to set REAL healthy lifestyle goals, not resolutions, for yourself and to do it with focused intentionality and discipline.
One of the best things you can do for yourself is plan for success before you start. I am a strong believer in goal setting, strategic planning and execution. These three things are extremely instrumental in reaching your desired outcome and for sustaining transformational results.
A healthy lifestyle is becoming more and more important for people as we all search for ways to live longer, happier, and more fulfilling lives. If you are not in the best shape of your life, or if you are not at the level of health and wellness you desire, then think about what you can do to improve it. What are some of your short-term and long-term goals? Do you need to overcome negative beliefs that are keeping you stuck? Do you want to be stronger and healthier to set an example for your family? Do you just want to lose weight?
Take a moment and really think about it. Once you have put it into perspective, then ask yourself: How do I get there? What do I need to do? These are the questions along with understanding your WHY that must be answered to be successful.
It does not matter if you are overweight, out of shape and really struggling with eating healthier. It does not matter if you have tried everything else and failed to maintain results. It does not matter if this is your first attempt at getting fit and healthy. The only thing that matters is that THIS time will be different because it is all up to YOU!
YOU hold the keys to your progress. You must be fully committed and consistent to move forward and push through any negative beliefs such as self-criticism, doubt, and procrastination just to name a few. You must be willing to put in the work to break old habits that keep you from living healthier, and you must be willing to learn to unlearn negative behaviors and create new habits that elevate your wellness.
This all starts with adopting a healthy mindset to sustain a healthy lifestyle. That's why this time will be different because you are taking full responsibility for your health and wellness. You are going to make it happen this time because you have a plan and a strategy for success that is tailor made for YOU!
So what is a habit?

A "habit" is an action that occurs automatically, without conscious thought. Habits are actions that we repeat over and over again until they become ingrained in our lives.
The hardest part of any new healthy habit is starting. Once you've started, your path becomes much easier and the momentum that you get from achieving your goals can set you up for sustainable success. Achieving success with new habits comes down to how much effort you're willing to put in and how much time you're willing to take for yourself. Yes, creating new healthy habits will take some time, but it can be done.
Below are three main strategies to help you create successful healthy habits:
1. Decide what ACTIONABLE changes you want to focus on and make your new habits specific.
For example, if your goal is to live healthier, set goals like:
I will drink 64+ ounces of water a day.
I will eat leafy greens vegetables at every meal.
I will make movement a priority and obtain 8-10k steps daily.
I will conduct 30-45 minute strength training 3-5x a week.
I will get 7-8 hours of sleep at least 4-5x a week.
I will set aside 20-30 minutes every morning (or night) to meditate and reflect.
2. Focus on one small habit changing strategy at a time, starting with the most important ones first. One of the biggest reasons people give up on their health and wellness goals is because they tackle too many things at once feeling overwhelmed or frustrated when they do not achieve results. The key is to set small, realistic goals that are easy enough for you to achieve so you stay motivated and inspired.
3. Reward yourself for success and never punish setbacks or challenges. Rewarding yourself with incremental rewards every time you take a step towards your goal is actually much more effective at reinforcing new behaviors than punishing yourself when you fall off track or don't follow through. The key is to use your setback and challenges as opportunities for growth, resolve and resiliency.
